Jasprit Bumrah picked up 6 wickets in the second innings and South Africa was bundled out at 176 in their second innings giving a target of 79 runs to India. In reply, India chased down the target in just 12 overs after losing 3 wickets.

The second test match between South Africa and India surpassed the test match between Australia and South Africa played in Melbourne in 1932 to become the shortest test match played ever in terms of ball bowled in the match. India is the first Asian team to win a Test match at Newlands, Cape Town.
