As Switzerland was drawn into Group A alongside hosts Germany, Scotland, and Hungary, lewd noises could be heard.
Before Liverpool and Wolves’ FA Cup match in January, a similar incident happened on the BBC.
Daniel Jarvis, a YouTube prankster, claimed responsibility for both the pranks.
Jarvis streamed himself live on X, formerly Twitter, ringing a mobile phone to trigger the noises during the BBC-streamed Euros draw in Hamburg, Germany.
“Listen, that was us, that was us,” he said to the audience. Sex noise during the Euro 2024 draw was heard when we got it in there, put the phone in there, and rang it.
In an attempt to gain control of the situation, host Giorgio Marchetti, the deputy general secretary of the body that oversees European football, stated: “There was some noise here, but it has stopped now. No noises anymore.
When asked about the incident, England manager Gareth Southgate stated that from his seat in the audience, he could vaguely hear some noises.
“I’m assuming it was some sort of a prank, but it was hard to really make out what it was,” said the man.
Similar noises heard during a broadcast from Molineux Stadium startled presenter Gary Lineker and pundits Paul Ince and Danny Murphy during the FA Cup coverage.
Following the discovery of a planted cell phone during a studio search, the BBC expressed regret to any offended viewers.
Later, Lineker wrote on X that he found it to be a “good prank” and that “as sabotage goes, it was quite amusing.”
